The mental health services we provide are body-oriented or somatic in nature. The word Somatic is translated from the Greek word “somatikos” or the French word “somatique”– meaning “pertaining to the body” or “the living body.”
There are many styles of somatic therapies and interventions. Somatic therapies addresses the connection between mind, body, and spirit. A somatic or body-based psychotherapist relies upon a deep understanding of the nervous system; thereby, teaching clients to actively and regularly practice skillful use of awareness, breath, mindfulness, co-regulation, and movement to engage their body’s natural healing impulse.
In addition to talking and cognitive interventions, somatic therapy practitioners use mind-body exercises and other physical techniques to help clients release the pent-up tension and old brace patterns that have been negatively affecting their mental, emotional, physical, energetic, and spiritual well-being.
